Hosts China

Achieving people's development through skills development

The Chinese government takes skill development as one key component of the strategy of reinvigorating the country through talent development, and listed vocational education and training as priority areas and is striving to develop life-long vocational education and training system for workers.
China’s modern vocational education and training system underscores equity, with a focus on vulnerable groups including women, ethnic minorities, rural, and poverty-stricken areas.
It follows the development concept of “ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the UN Sustainable Development Summit. China will increase the support of vocational education in rural areas, regions of ethnic minorities and poorest areas, and launch poverty reduction activities through skills to ensure everyone has the opportunity to excel in life.
Since China started reform and opening up 30 years ago, it has worked hard to eradicate poverty through skill education and training. More than 700 million people have been lifted out of poverty, accounting for more than 70% of the world’s poverty reduction achievements.

Education in poverty-stricken areas

By 2020, China will strive to lift all its 40 million impoverished population out of poverty and achieve common development for the whole nation. We firmly believe that skills are crucial in this process.
Therefore, the Chinese government and people are looking forward to hosting the WorldSkills Competition in China, with more attention being paid to vocational education and training, ensuring that youth, and especially those living in underdeveloped regions, will enjoy more opportunities for education and fulfill their dreams through skills.
